Member news: Post, the University of Luxembourg, and Hitec join Starion and Nexova’s “Quantum Shield” initiative

A Belgian-Luxembourg consortium, led by Nexova and Starion and including Post Luxembourg, Belnet, IDELUX, HITEC, and the University of Luxembourg, is mobilizing to tackle one of the next major cybersecurity threats: quantum computers. Named Quantum Shield, the project aims to develop and test unbreakable encryption technologies by 2030 to secure communications against future quantum attacks.

Based in Transinne, at the heart of Europe’s “Cyber Valley,” the consortium operates from an ultra-secure cybersecurity center. Engineers experiment with quantum communication over fiber and satellite networks while simulating critical infrastructures using digital twins, allowing them to test power plants, transport networks, or government systems without endangering actual operations.

Quantum Shield positions Luxembourg as a hub for European digital sovereignty, combining cutting-edge research, hands-on training, and collaboration across the space, defense, and cybersecurity sectors, preparing Europe for the quantum era before it threatens vital infrastructures.
