Schueberfouer 2022: back to the ante-covid version!

Do you know the annual fun fair that takes place on the Glacis Square an der Stad, in Luxembourg city?

It is the Schueberfouer! This year, it will take place from Friday 19/08/2022 until Wednesday 07/09/2022, every day from 14:00 to 1:00, and until 2:00 on Fridays and Saturdays.

John I of Luxembourg, better known as John the Blind, King of Bohemia and Count of Luxembourg, founded the Schueberfouer back in 1340, originally an 8-day market in celebration of Saint Bartholomew’s Day on 24 August.

The Schueberfouer was originally held at the Plateau du Saint-Esprit but, victim of its own success, quickly outgrew the space and was relocated to the Limpertsberg district.

In the 18th century, the market continuously grew, not just in size, but also in offer; concerts, dances as well as games of skill were now part of the agenda.

By 1849, the market welcomed its first rides and in 1893, following the urbanisation of the Limpertsberg district, the market relocated to the Glacis, which has remained its yearly location ever since.

To this day, the Schueberfouer, with its countless rides, games, food and drink venues, remains the biggest annual fun fair in Luxembourg and the Greater Region, attracting millions of visitors each year.

Fun fact

The Schueberfouer even has its very own mascot, namely the sheep mascot Lämmy which was drawn by comic strip artist Emile Schlesser (also known as Milli).
